Overview

Clearing the Outlook cache can fix problems like missing emails or sync delays.

Step 1 - Close Outlook

Make sure Outlook is completely closed before proceeding.

Step 2 - Delete Cache Files (Windows)

  1. Press Windows Key + R and type the following into the Run box:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
  1. Delete the .ost files in this folder (these will be recreated automatically when Outlook restarts)

Step 3 - Delete Cache Files (Mac)

  1. In Outlook for Mac, go to Tools > Accounts
  2. Select your account and click the minus (–) button to remove it
  3. Re-add the account to clear the cache

Notes

  • Outlook will automatically rebuild the cache and resync with your mailbox after restarting
  • Deleting the .ost file does not delete your emails — they will resync from the server
